What is Colon Hydrotherapy?
Colon hydrotherapy (also known as a colonic) is a safe, effective method of removing waste from the large intestine using warm filtered water. Colon hydrotherapy hydrates the large intestine and the waste within the large intestine. A small amount of water is introduced into the colon (another term for the large intestine) and starts to loosen and soften the waste. This encourages evacuation through peristalsis, the rhythmic muscular movement that occurs throughout the digestive system. A session consists of a series of inflows and outflows of water, along with gentle abdominal movement to encourage the release of waste.
A gown is worn at all times, and most people find the experience to be gentle and effective, feeling great at the end of the session, and energized.
I use disposable tubing and FDA-registered equipment. I am certified by
I-ACT (International Association for Colon Hydrotherapy) at the Advanced and National Board Levels.
What is the colon?
The colon is also called the large intestine, or bowel, and is the last part of the digestive tract. It is one of the elimination organs of the body and contains the end by-product of digestion. It also contains fluids for absorption into the body and helps to synthesize some of the final products of digestion. The colon is also the home of hundreds of types of bacteria, some of which are part of our immune system.
There is a belief by many health conscious individuals that good health begins in the colon. If we are not eliminating waste in a timely manner, there is a build up of toxic waste in our colons, and toxins will be reabsorbed into the body, putting a stress on many of our vital organs.
How do I know if I need to have a colonic session?
There are many reasons why people come for a colon hydrotherapy session. These may include constipation, gas and bloating, as well as being a wonderful help when doing a “detox” program for conditions such as parasite or candida cleansing. You may also come for seasonal cleanses or maintenance cleanses to maintain a great feeling of well-being.
Is there anything I need to do before the session?
We recommend preparing for a colonic by avoiding mucus forming foods and possible allergy producing foods, such as breads, cheese and pasta. We also recommend avoiding carbonated beverages and sugars. These ferment in the colon, causing gas and bloating.
Since abdominal massage is employed to assist in the sessions, it is recommended to come with an empty belly and bladder, for your increased comfort. It is recommended to avoid food and drink 2 hours before your appointment.
Can I eat afterwards?
Yes! However, we recommend that you eat lightly. Foods such as soups, herbal teas and steamed vegetables are a nice, gentle way to reintroduce foods to your system after cleansing with a colon hydrotherapy session.
